A pair of Russian MiG-23MLX Flogger M’s accelerate over the Russian Far East landscape. This fantasy aviation magazine cover depicts a March 2017 flight of the hypothetical final Flogger model. The digital image was created in 2024 as an enhancement of colored marker and colored pencil drawing. The Flogger M is the last/lost version of the air-to-air MiG-23, featuring: a dorsal conformal fuel tank; an enlarged centerline fuel tank; a retractable air-refueling probe; enlarged rudder & folding ventral fin; a remodeled canopy & windscreen that improve the Flogger’s limited cockpit view; a glass cockpit with a holographic HUD; an active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar derived from the MiG-35’s radar; a nose-mounted infrared search and track system; an electro-optical targeting system designed to search, detect, and track targets on the ground or at sea; AA-11 Archer and AA-12 Adder compatibility; the addition of intake corner-mounted Archer pylons; and a modified version of the Su-27 Flanker’s Saturn AL-31 engine. This picture is a reboot of Flogger art I’ve done in the past, including an acrylic MiG-23MF Flogger B painting from 1983 and a MiG-23MLD Flogger K graphite drawing from 2009.
